Fairfield, CA – Solano Community College proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its Speech and Debate Team, which earned 1st Place in Team Sweepstakes (Limited Entry Division) at the 2026 California Community College Forensics Association (CCCFA) State Championship Tournament, held March 11–15 in Concord, California.
The team delivered an exceptional performance across multiple events, showcasing the talent, dedication, and academic excellence of Solano students.
Among the individual highlights:
- Mahari Wright earned Gold in Extemporaneous Speaking
- Francesca Franco won four medals, including Silver in Program Oral Interpretation and multiple bronze awards
- Lance Cohen, a first-year competitor, earned Bronze in IPDA Debate
In addition, Team Director Dr. Douglas Mungin was honored with the President’s Award for distinctive service in California Forensics, recognizing his leadership and contributions to the field.
Seven members of the team were also inducted into the inaugural Lambda Phi Alpha Honor Society, established by the CCCFA, to recognize student achievement and excellence in competitive forensics. Solano Community College’s inaugural inductees include: Mahari Wright, Francesca Franco, Jevohnte’ Fields, Lance Cohen, Tyler King, Abigail Gold, Megan Savage, and Monica Guerrero.

The team now looks ahead to the Phi Rho Pi Community College National Championships in April, to be held in Bethesda, Maryland.
Community members are invited to support the team at Speech Night, taking place on Thursday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Solano Community College Theater on the Fairfield Campus.
