Fairfield, CA – Solano Community College is proud to announce the grand reopening of its newly renovated Cosmetology Department, marking an exciting new chapter for students, faculty, and the community. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, September 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the Fairfield campus.
The revitalized space features modernized classrooms, upgraded equipment, and an enhanced salon environment designed to provide students with hands-on, industry-aligned training. The renovation is part of the Building 1600 Modernization Project, a $10.2 million project funded entirely through Measure Q, the bond measure approved by local voters in 2012.
Measure Q, the Student/Veterans’ Affordable Education, Job Training, and Classroom Repair Measure, was established to support improvements to classrooms, technology, educational programs, and facilities throughout the Solano Community College District. The Building 1600 project includes a full modernization of the Cosmetology Department, including new interior finishes, improvements to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, modernized restrooms, ADA upgrades, and exterior improvements.
"The renovation of our Cosmetology Department represents an investment in the future of career education at Solano Community College," said Jose Cortes, Dean of Career and Technical Education. "This modernized facility creates new opportunities to expand the program, serve more students, and provide our community with an affordable, high-quality pathway into the beauty industry. By investing in state-of-the-art learning environments, we are helping students gain the skills they need for rewarding careers while making career education more accessible to our community."
Guests attending the grand reopening can expect an engaging and festive atmosphere, including guided tours of the new facility and opportunities to meet students and instructors. The event will also spotlight the program’s role in preparing future professionals for careers in cosmetology and related fields.
As part of the celebration, Solano Community College will launch a fundraising initiative in support of the Margaret Jenkins Scholarship Fund, which helps cosmetology students overcome financial barriers and achieve their educational goals. Guests will have the opportunity to honor Margaret’s legacy by making a gift to the scholarship fund during the event.
“This reopening represents more than just a new space. It’s a renewed investment in our students, our programs, and our community,” said Curley Wikkeling-Miller, Cosmetology Professor. “We are excited to welcome guests to experience the transformation firsthand and support the next generation of beauty professionals.”
The event is open to the public, and community members, partners, alumni, and others interested in celebrating the newly renovated Cosmetology Department are encouraged to attend. Guests are asked to RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-studio-at-solano-grand-re-opening-tickets-1995172311091
