Solano Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter continues to make waves at the national and state levels, earning multiple prestigious awards recognizing both students and advisors for their excellence.
Professors LaNae Jaimez and Michael Wyly have been jointly selected as recipients of Phi Theta Kappa’s 2025 Distinguished Chapter Advisor Team Award, a testament to their unwavering dedication to student success and leadership. Additionally, Michael Wyly will receive PTK’s 2025 Continued Excellence Award for Advisors, an honor reserved for past recipients of the Distinguished Advisor Award, which he earned in 2024. Both awards will be presented at PTK Catalyst, PTK’s national conference, in April.
Solano’s student scholars are also making their mark. Samantha Cruz, Saida Julius,
and Magan Cruz-Wingo have been named to the All-California Academic Teams, an esteemed
recognition by the Community College League of California. Their placement in the
gold, silver, and bronze tiers will be announced in April. Additionally, Samantha
Cruz has already earned honors at the international level.
Adding to the chapter’s literary accolades, Grant Von Pein, an English major at Solano,
was named runner-up for Poet Laureate for the NV/CA Division of PTK for his poem,
“So . . . What’s the Story?”
"This is an incredible achievement for both our students and faculty. LaNae and Michael’s unwavering dedication to student success continues to elevate Solano Community College, and I’m thrilled to see their hard work recognized on a national stage,” remarked Superintendent President Dr. Kellie Sims Butler. “I’m also immensely proud of our students—Samantha, Saida, Magan, and Grant—whose accomplishments reflect the excellence and talent within our Solano community. These honors are a testament to the transformative power of education and the bright future ahead for our students."
