Solano Community College’s (SCC) A²MEND Charter has achieved a historic victory at the 2025 A²MEND Conference, winning the Student Knowledge Bowl competition against 15 other colleges and earning the prestigious Charter of the Year Award out of 53 charters across California. Several SCC students were also awarded highly coveted scholarships, further cementing the college’s commitment to academic excellence and student success.
"This is a tremendous achievement that highlights the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence of our students,” said Dr. Kellie Sims Butler, Solano Community College Superintendent President. “At a time when equity and student success are more important than ever, our A²MEND Charter has demonstrated the power of mentorship, education, and community support.”
The A²MEND (African American Male Education Network & Development) organization is
dedicated to fostering leadership, academic achievement, and professional development
for Black male students in higher education. Solano Community College’s charter has
been actively engaged in mentoring and leadership activities, providing a platform
for students to excel.
“We are so proud of our A²MEND students for excelling on this statewide stage,” said
Shanan Danley, Director, Juvenile Justice Program and A²MEND Advisor. “These wins
reinforce the importance of organizations like A²MEND and the transformative impact
