Solano Community College offers two pathways in Theatre Arts: the Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts for Transfer (A.A.-T) and the Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree in Theatre Arts.
The A.A.-T is ideal for students planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in performance or technical theatre within the CSU system and guarantees admission to a CSU campus (though not to a specific campus or major). The A.A. in Theatre Arts provides a well-rounded foundation in acting, stagecraft, lighting, costuming, and theatre history, with options to focus on either Acting or Technical Theatre.
Both programs prepare students for continued academic study or a wide range of careers in the performing arts, including stage and screen acting, lighting and sound design, stage management, costume and makeup design, and even event production.

Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts for Transfer Degree (AA-T)
The Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts for Transfer (A.A.-T) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in performance theatre or technical theatre. Students completing this degree (A.A.-T in Theatre) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular class or major.
Associate in Arts Degree (AA)
The Associate in Arts Degree in Theatre Arts can be obtained by completing the 30-31-unit major, general education requirements, and electives. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.
Certificate of Achievement
The Theatre Arts Technical Certificate of Achievement at Solano Community College is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in backstage and technical production. The required coursework includes foundational classes such as Acting, Stagecraft, Stage Lighting, and Introduction to Theatre, along with multiple semesters of technical production work through THEA 027 and THEA 047. Students then select 9–10 additional units from a curated list of courses in stage makeup, costume design, script analysis, CAD drafting, welding, and more. Upon completion, students will have the skills to interpret lighting and scenic designs, construct theatrical elements using industry techniques, operate backstage as part of a crew, and demonstrate specialization in key technical areas like lighting, sound, and scenic construction.

Director – Oversee artistic vision and production of stage or screen performances.

Playwright/Screenwriter – Write scripts for theatre, film, or television.

Stage Manager – Coordinate rehearsals, performances, and production logistics.

Set Designer – Create the physical environment for productions.

Lighting Designer/Technician – Design and operate lighting systems for stage and screen.

Costume Designer – Design and construct costumes for characters and productions.

Sound Designer/Technician – Create and manage audio elements of a production.

Drama Teacher or Theatre Instructor – Teach performance or technical theatre (with further study).

Arts Administrator – Manage theatre companies, venues, or arts organizations.

Event/Production Manager – Apply theatre production skills to concerts, festivals, and live events.
