Sociology at Solano Community College is the study of society, human behavior, and the forces that shape our everyday lives.

Students explore topics such as culture, socialization, inequality, racial and ethnic relations, gender, deviance, social issues, and the distribution of political and economic power. The Sociology program at Solano Community College provides students with the tools to analyze and understand society and human behavior. Students gain a strong foundation in key areas such as culture, socialization, inequality, racial and ethnic relations, gender roles, deviance, and pressing social issues. The program also emphasizes the study of how political and economic power is distributed and maintained within society.

By developing skills in critical thinking, research, and analysis, Sociology students are prepared to pursue advanced studies at four-year institutions or apply their knowledge to a wide range of careers in business, education, health, criminal justice, government, law, and social services.

  • Associate in Arts in Sociology for Transfer (AA-T in Sociology)

    – Designed for students planning to transfer to a California State University (CSU) to complete a bachelor’s degree in Sociology or a related field.

  • Associate in Arts Degree in Sociology

    – Provides a solid foundation in sociological theory, research, and applied studies, preparing students for transfer or for entry-level opportunities in fields that value critical thinking and understanding of social systems.

  • Social Services Case Worker – Assist individuals and families in accessing community resources and support.

  • Human Resources Specialist – Work in recruitment, training, and employee relations.

  • Community Outreach Coordinator – Develop and manage programs for nonprofits or government agencies.

  • Probation or Parole Officer – Support rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals in the justice system.

  • Market Research Analyst – Study social trends and consumer behavior to guide business decisions.

  • Policy Analyst – Research and evaluate social and economic policies.

  • Education and Academic Pathways – With advanced degrees, pursue careers as a Sociology Instructor, Researcher, or University Faculty.

  • Public Relations Specialist – Shape communication strategies between organizations and the public.

  • Healthcare Administrator or Patient Advocate – Apply sociological knowledge to improve healthcare delivery.
