Find your rhythm, discover your voice, and turn your passion into performance.

The Solano Community College Music program offers students a strong foundation in music through study and performance. Whether your interest lies in instrumental or vocal performance, jazz, composition, theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, or the music industry, this program prepares you with the skills and knowledge to pursue your artistic and academic goals.

The Music Department at Solano Community College offers an AA-T, two Associate in Art degrees, and three Certificates of Achievements for students to choose from. Please explore the Degree Overview/Timeline box below to learn more about our courses and requirements for each degree or certificate pathway.

Our Associate Degrees and Certificates offer a solid foundation across diverse musical specializations, including instrumental performance, vocal performance, jazz, composition, music theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, and the music industry. Students may choose to specialize in instrumental or vocal performance, or look toward transferring to a four-year institution with our AA-T degree.

Our Associate in Arts in Music for Transfer (AA-T) degree pathway supports a seamless transfer path to CSU campuses with junior standing (though not tied to a specific campus or major). To earn the AA‑T, students must complete 60 transferable semester units—including an approved General Education pattern (either CSU GE Breadth or IGETC) and 25 semester units in music coursework—maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA and earning a grade of C or better (or P if taken Pass/No Pass).

Certificates of Achievement

The Solano Community College music department offers two certificates centered on sound recording, and one certificate focused on music without a performance element.

The Sound Production certificates teach the craft and techniques of sound recording. Students will learn the intricacies of recording hardware and software through hands-on work in our state-of-the-art recording studio and, upon completion, will understand how to operate the equipment used to record sound professionally. Choose between a short-term 8-unit certificate for an introductory education in Sound Production or the 17.5 unit certificate for those seeking more advanced training and a career as a Sound Production Specialist.

The Certificate in Music (Non-Performance) provides students with a broad foundation in music theory, history, and cultural studies without a focus on performance. It is designed for students seeking an academic and cultural understanding of music. This 24-unit program explores the art form as a reflection of human experience across diverse traditions and communities.
