The Solano Community College Communication Studies program equips students with the knowledge and skills to craft, deliver, and analyze messages across interpersonal, public, and professional contexts. By understanding the communication process and developing effective speaking, writing, and critical thinking abilities, students prepare for success in diverse careers ranging from public relations and law to teaching, counseling, and sports broadcasting.

The Communication Studies Program at Solano Community College is a broad-based program designed to enhance students’ understanding of the communication process and develop effective speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills. Students gain practical experience in preparing and delivering messages across interpersonal, public, and professional settings.

Graduates of the program are well-prepared to pursue professional and academic pathways in fields such as teaching, speech writing, communication consulting, law, ministry, personnel management, sports broadcasting, public relations, political campaigns, sales, and counseling.

The Communication Studies Program offers students flexible academic pathways tailored to their interests and career goals:

  • Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer (AA-T)
    Designed for students planning to transfer to a CSU to complete a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies or a related field.

  • Associate in Arts Degree in Communication Studies
    Provides a strong foundation in communication skills for students seeking immediate career opportunities or further academic study.

  • Certificate of Achievement in Sports Broadcasting
    Focuses on specialized training in sports media, preparing students for careers in sports broadcasting and related industries.

A degree or certificate in Communication Studies opens the door to a wide variety of professional paths. Graduates develop strong speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills that are highly valued across industries. Possible careers include:
