Art History
The Art History program at Solano Community College develops skills in creative problem-solving, critical thinking, reading, writing, and research as students study painting, sculpture, architecture, and other art forms from diverse artists, cultures, and eras.
Students explore a wide range of artistic styles while examining how an artist’s cultural background, beliefs, and experiences shape their work. The program encourages students to engage with challenging and thought-provoking issues, making connections across disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, psychology, philosophy, ethnic studies, and social justice.

The program explores the connections between art and disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, philosophy, archaeology, ethnic studies, and social justice, encouraging students to engage with diverse perspectives and challenging ideas. Students also take studio art courses to experience the creative process firsthand.
This program prepares students to transfer to CSU, UC, and other four-year universities to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History or related fields, building a strong foundation for academic and professional success.

Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer (AA-T)
Ideal for students aiming to transfer to California State University campuses, Solano’s AA-T in Art History provides both academic rigor and practical experience. It features a minimum of 18 semester units in the major, combined with IGETC or CSU-GE breadth requirements, for a total of 60 transferable units. Students with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and required course grades of C or better (or P if Pass/No Pass) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system as juniors. -
Associate in Arts in Art History (Non-ADT)
Solano also offers the traditional Associate in Arts degree in Art History, which includes the major coursework along with general education and electives to meet the 60-unit degree requirement. This pathway supports both transfer to four-year institutions and broader academic preparation.
