Strategically located in Fairfield, California, SCC serves as the perfect midway point between the bustling cities of San Francisco and Sacramento, making it conveniently accessible to students from both regions.
SCC recognizes the importance of providing comprehensive ASL programs that cater to the diverse needs of our students. Interested learners can now pursue an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in ASL/English Interpreter Training or opt for a Certificate of Achievement in ASL/English Interpreter Training. These programs are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of ASL interpretation, a critical profession that bridges communication gaps and promotes inclusivity in our communities.

The American Sign Language (ASL) program at Solano Community College provides students with a strong foundation in ASL and introductory interpreting skills, preparing them to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their path toward becoming professional interpreters. Coursework presents ASL in a cross-cultural context, with an emphasis on Deaf culture, communication, and the ethical standards expected in the interpreting profession.
ASL ASSOCIATE ART (A.A.) DEGREE
The ASL program provides a foundation of interpreting skills for students seeking to transfer to a four-year institution to become an interpreter. The coursework presents American Sign Language in a cross-cultural context, addressing the ethics and standards expected of a professional interpreter. The Associate in Arts Degree in American Sign Language can be obtained by completing the 27-unit major and general education requirements.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
1. Sign effectively, using appropriate skills, in working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
2. Demonstrate understanding of Deaf culture and the ethics and standards of a professional ASL environment.

ASL INTERPRETING CERTIFICATE
The ASL Interpreting Certificate program is a 27-unit course of study providing a foundation of interpreting skills for students to become an entry- level interpreter. The coursework presents American Sign Language in a cross-cultural context, addressing the ethics and standards expected of a professional interpreter.
