The Solano Community College Aeronautics program prepares students for careers in aviation maintenance through hands-on training in aircraft structures, engines, and systems. Courses follow FAA Part 147 standards, leading to eligibility for Airframe, Powerplant, or combined A&P certification. With instruction from experienced faculty and access to professional facilities, students gain the skills needed to succeed in one of today’s most dynamic industries.

In the Aeronautics program at Solano Community College, you’ll gain the practical and theoretical skills needed for aviation maintenance. The program prepares students to earn FAA licenses in Airframe, Powerplant, or both. You’ll learn how to inspect, service, and repair aircraft systems—everything from engines and structures to hydraulics, systems, and instruments—aligning with FAA Part 147 standards. Upon completion, you're eligible to take the FAA written, oral, and practical exams for certification.
Solano offers multiple pathways for graduate preparation:

Certificate of Achievement (Airframe or Powerplant): Complete the 41-unit major in either Airframe or Powerplant to earn certification.

Associate in Science Degree (Airframe or Powerplant): Complete the 41-unit major, plus general education and electives to reach a minimum of 60 units. All major courses must be passed with a grade of C or better.

Combined Airframe & Powerplant Certificate: Complete the 62-unit combined major in both areas for FAA eligibility.

Combined Associate in Science Degree: Complete the combined 62-unit major, along with general education and electives (to reach 60+ units), for the degree.
Graduates of the Aeronautics program are equipped for in-demand roles in aviation and related fields. Career paths include:

Airframe Maintenance Technician – Inspect, repair, and maintain aircraft structures and systems.

Powerplant Maintenance Technician – Service aircraft piston and turbine engines and associated systems.

Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic – Hold certification in both specialties for maximum flexibility and career reach.
Program highlights include hands-on training, FAA Part 147 curriculum, and access to FAA licensure upon completion—students train with a variety of aircraft and advanced tools at the Nut Tree Airport hangar.
