Al-Mutanabbi Street Project Reading

Friday, March 15th • 2:00 pm • SCC Library

Printable Flyer (more info)

This project is an ongoing effort which began with a number of local bay area writers, booksellers and letter press printers in support of the Iraqi intellectual and cultural community of Baghdad, when Al Mutanabbi Street was bombed on March 5, 2007. At least 30 people were killed and 100 were wounded.

Since the first reading/exhibition the project has been exhibited in San Francisco, LA, Washington D.C, and even abroad, and we are very happy to have this project make its way to SCC. Solano College's very own Michael Wyly and Jack Schouten will be among the readers, as well as three other well know bay area poets. See the PDF link above for more details.

The anthology contains poems and translations from celebrated Iraqi poets, as well as local and internationally recognized writers such as Saadi Yousef, Adrienne Rich and Naomi Shihab Nye, and will be available for purchase.
