John Nagle is in his fourth year as the head coach at Solano. Nagle's teams are known to compete hard every game with an up-tempo style of play in addition to solid defense and sometimes flashy offense. This year should be no different as the Falcons look to make a solid push at a playoff spot. Nagle's strong ties to Solano County have helped him bring in some of the area's top talent over the past four years. Because of that connection, he has built a successful program which focuses on academic success and emphasizes the student in student-athlete. Solano narrowly missed out on the Northern California playoffs last season, posting a 10-17 overall record and a 7-9 mark in Bay Valley Conference play. Following the season, three players earned scholarships to four-year schools to continue their academic and athletic careers. In 2004-2005, Nagle posted his first winning season at the collegiate level after the team finished the regular season with a 15-11 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play. Though the Falcons were out of playoff contention, five players moved on to four-year schools. The 2003-04 team finished the season with an 8-17 overall record, four sophomores moved on to play at four-year schools. Nagle served as an assistant to Jerry Miller from 1995-99 at Solano. During that time the Falcons were consistent playoff participants and won the Bay Valley Conference East division in the 1996-97 Season. Nagle has 11 years of coaching community college and high school basketball in Solano County. His coaching career began at Will C. Wood High in 1993 as a varsity assistant to Steve Wright. The Wildcats won the Monticello Empire League title in 1994. After serving as an assistant at SCC, Nagle became the coach at Fairfield High for the 1999-2000 season. After one season, he returned to Wood as the head coach from 2000-03. Under his instruction, the Wildcats won the MEL championship and made the playoffs two out of his three seasons. Nagle attended Foothill Community College as a student-athlete earning his AA in Human Performance in 1989. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UCLA in 1992 and his Masters of Science in Recreation Administration from Sacramento State University in 2001. Prior to his current position, he spent seven years teaching court school and high school special education. Nagle is most proud of his family – his beautiful bride Lisa, his amazing son, John III (Jay). The Nagles make their home in Vacaville. Kurt Baughn is in his sixth year on Coach Nagle's Staff. Coach Baughn received his Masters in Kinesiology from California State University, East Bay in 2007 and his Bachelor's in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Sport Psychology and Coaching from California State University, Long Beach in 2004. Coach Baughn holds certificates from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and USA Weight Lifting as a Sports Performance Coach. Coach Baughn's previous coaching experiences include coaching at the high school level in both Northern and Southern California, working various basketball camps including camps for the University of North Carolina and Triple Threat Basketball Academy. While at Solano, Coach Baughn's duties, beyond his on court coaching, have included running the strength program, scouting, video editing, statistics, fundraising, recruiting, and game preparation. He is also currently serving as an adjunct instructor for the Physical Education Department here at Solano College. Jean Gelpi is in his first year on Coach John Nagle's staff. Coach Gelpi, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, was raised in Spain where he was introduced to the game of basketball. Coach Gelpi has competed at every level of basketball from high school up to the professional level, where he played internationally both in Europe and Puerto Rico for 7 years. Coach Gelpi also had the honor of playing for the Puerto Rican National Team. Coach Gelpi has coached at Dixon High School, and is currently part of the Varsity and Youth coaching staffs for the Davis Wildcats AAU national traveling basketball club.
