Overview to English 370L (English Fundamentals Lab)

Students must be enrolled in .5 unit of English 370L unless they have already completed a 370L lab component in a previous semester and earned a 'P' grade. English 370L students are provided one-on-one instruction as they work through a structured curriculum which develops their reading and writing skills and prepares them for English 1. Students are required to provide a green English 370 lab folder, which is available for purchase in the college bookstore (about $2.50). All other lab materials will be provided in the lab and there is no textbook required for the 370 lab. The lab provides periodic reports to classroom instructors indicating student progress with the lab assignments as well as the amount of time the student has spent in the lab. Students earn credit in the lab on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) basis upon completion of the lab component.

Overview to English 350-355L (Write/Read Skills Lab)

Students must be enrolled in 1.5 unit of English 350-355L unless they have already completed a 350-355L lab component in a previous semester and earned a ‘P’ grade.  English 350-355L students are provided one-on-one instruction as they work through a set of 3 sections of reading and writing work, including supplementary exercises and revisions as necessary.  Students will provide a white Writing Lab folder which is available for purchase in the college bookstore (about $2.50).  Students will be assigned a lab textbook, which they must purchase as well (about $40-$45).  Students will be assigned the appropriate textbook for their reading level after attending lab for one or two sessions.  All other lab materials will be provided in the lab.  The lab provides periodic reports to classroom instructors indicating student progress in the lab as well as the amount of time the student has spent working in the lab.  Students earn credit in the lab on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) basis upon completion of the lab component.

Overview to English 310 (Writing Skills Lab)

The Writing Skills Lab is an open-entry, open-exit class offering individualized instruction in writing skills.  The Lab is especially designed to serve independent students not enrolled in any other English classes.  Any Solano College student may enroll in this class.  Students enroll in .5 unit of English 310.  Assignments are based on individual needs and will vary for each student.  Students will be required to purchase a white Writing Lab folder (about $2.50) from the bookstore.  All other lab materials will be provided in the lab. Students earn credit in the Writing Skills Lab on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) basis upon satisfactory completion of the lab assignments within the semester.  So that staff may help students step by step, all assignments must be done in the Lab.

Overview to English 320 (Reading Improvement Lab)

The Reading Improvement Lab is an open-entry, open-exit class offering individualized instruction for students who want to improve their reading skills on an independent basis.  The Lab is designed to serve all Solano College students, especially students not enrolled in any other English classes.  Any Solano College student may enroll in this class.  Students enroll in either .5 or 1.0 units of English 320, although it is strongly recommended that students enroll in .5 unit.  Students will be assigned a lab textbook which must be purchased (about $40-$45). Students will be assigned the appropriate textbook for their reading level after attending lab for one or two sessions.  Students enrolled in .5 unit must complete 8 assigned chapters in the textbook.  For 1.0 units, a student will be required to complete 10 textbook chapters along with 10 additional readings plus related assignments. Students earn credit in the Reading Improvement Lab on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) basis upon satisfactory completion of the lab assignments within the semester.  So that staff may help students step by step, all assignments must be done in the Lab.
