CAMPUS ENRICHMENT

1 Landscape reflecting building's discipline/subject
Most respondents feel this is a good idea and will help with pedestrian way-finding and building identification throughout the campus. Many responses also suggested artwork and sculptures to better define the spaces and building disciplines. Ideas for artwork vary from poems and quotes near the Humanities building to the periodic table of elements near the Math and Science building. It is also important that ‘all public art be reviewed and selected by the campus community, under guidance of the art department.’

2 Campus Garden? Location?
Most responses indicated a desire to have gardens throughout campus as long as they are easy to maintain and are not neglected. Student and faculty involvement for soil testing, site location, and maintenance is important to the respondents. Popular areas for gardens include the horticulture building and the quad areas at the entry of the gym and in front of the cafeteria, among others.

3 Water Features? Where? Seating Nearby?
Many respondents would like a fountain or other water feature incorporated into a relaxation place such as the campus garden. Several comments indicated the area spanning from the gym to buildings 700 and 800 would be most appropriate. An innovative comment was to conserve water through rain and runoff harvesting. A number of respondents did not think a water feature was necessary. Concerns regarding a water feature were that it may be more trouble and upkeep than it was worth, and may attract insects and other nuisances.

4 Lighting
An overwhelming majority felt a great need for additional lighting on campus. Safety lighting is necessary for parking lots and other dark areas. They would also like to see soft lighting along walkways and don't want any lighting to be excessive or creating a glare.

5 Parking
Comments regarding parking indicated a need for additional visitor, faculty/staff, and accessible parking. Many respondents felt the client parking for Cosmetology is overparked and would like to see more parking for faculty instead. Many felt the amount of student parking is adequate and would like to see more bike lockers and racks to encourage alternative modes of transportation. Landscaping in the parking lots was also mentioned, as many students tend to nap in their car in between classes.

6 Other
Many people would like to see more, large shade trees throughout campus. They would also like native, Mediterranean species that fit well into their climate and require little watering and maintenance. Responses describe a very park-like setting with increased planting and sitting areas throughout campus. Signage is the other major topic brought up by respondents. They feel the buildings need better signage that incorporate the building's discipline with its number. Vehicular signage is also a big issue with respondents who feel traffic needs to be better controlled.
