SURVEY 1

FACULTY/STAFF IDEAS
• No "homogenous landscape" - all we see is uniformity
• Promote “Patio/Terrace and Neighborhood” design teams
Examples:
1. 3-D Periodic Table outside chem. Labs (like the one at American River Coll.)
2. Sundial in the center of the quad etched in native stone; yearlong calibration project
3. DNA lamp posts
4. Durable cement tables and benches with tent like one at Children's Program
5. Bushes trimmed and shaped like spherical harmonics
6. 6N dimensional phase space classroom of Plexiglas
7. 20 ft. tall chaos machine
8. Replace grass with DNA strands spiraling, replicating, and transcribing from lamp post to lamp post
9. Series of terraces forming a 3-D topographic map with seating for outdoor classes
10. Wind-powered lighting
11. Solar-powered fountain
12. Weather station
13. Tables in the form of GC, AT base pairs
14. Landscape depicting the American River drainage though Delta out to Bay

FACULTY/STAFF IDEAS - Continued
• More humane, playful, welcoming environment (i.e. tree groves, shaded benches for naps, circle walls for seating, outdoor tables for study groups, bushes surrounding patios)
• Tables with built in chess boards, mazes, puzzle parts (unremovable), poet's corner
• Meditation Spots (i.e. labyrinths, mandala, places to read or nap)
• Outdoor study areas and student "place to go"
• Pavilion for performances and/or outdoor assemblies
• Native trees/shrubs/grasses
• Drought-tolerant demonstration gardens
• Landscaping other than grass (too expensive)
• Double Helix walkway (i.e. like at SF Genentech)
• Sculptures (i.e. only lights up on the equinoxes)
• Greenhouse or arboretum with auto-sprinkler
• Community garden(s); Zen gardens; pond
• Solar lighting
• Larger Parking slots
• More Trees
• Courtyard Fountain (Spanish mission-look)
