We will be exploring how to set up and maintain servers, send text messages, and do live video and voice chats. In addition, this presentation will address the need for students to have a place to congregate en masse, outside of the confines of the physical spaces that make up SCC, using Discord. The ability to communicate in real time, share and exchange resources, and set up impromptu study sessions are all tools Discord provides. This model has already been put into motion with Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing student cohorts. We have been maintaining the server for 2 years and the students have been using it as a means to share resources, communicate, problem solve, and work together. Having a designated, faculty- supported platform on which to safely congregate and exchange academic ideas and solutions will be beneficial to students.
