Welding - Industrial Technician

Program Description

Designed to upgrade the skills of persons employed as welders, providing advanced training in a variety of welding applications.

Opportunities

There are more than 3,000 welders at work in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the demand for skilled craftsmen is greater than ever. The projected annual job openings for welders is 26,000 nationwide. Welders who can read blueprints, set up their own work and use electric arc and inert gas equipment are always in short supply. Heavy construction, transportation projects and the utilities employ the most welders. Many others work in job shops and in field maintenance jobs. Welders also are employed by federal, state and local governments. Most industrial plants, large and small, employ a team of welders. Journeymen welders often have the opportunity for advancement to foreman positions, and many welders operate their own businesses.

Certification of students as "Code Welders" is available at a nominal cost to the student.
