Solano Tennis Takes Flight

Solano Men and Women Tennis Teams have taken flight and officially began their 2018 Season last week. We started on Tuesday (Jan 30th) with a double-header Home Match against Foothills College, filling all 12 courts with doubles and singles matches.

The ladies faced a novice Foothills Team and were capable of managing the double lines with expert approach. Camille Contawe / Jyne Velono made their debut as a doubles pairing and won their Pro Set along with Yasmeen Awad / Priscilla Ferreira. Once singles started Ashley Contawe found herself battling a most capable number one and after the dust settled, this was Foothill's only winning line. Camille Contawe, Sierra Shackelford, Jyne Velono, Yasmeen Awad and Thea Jimenez played the respective 2 through 6 singles lines and won each of them decisively. Solano Women win with a convincing 8 to 1.

The Solano Men's Team faced a different beast all together when they played the Foothill's Men Team. Only two double lines were played and the pairings of Tristan Apilado / Joe Caspers and Sean Dolan / Aaron Brumels put up a great fight but in the end lost 4-8, 1-8 respectively. As for singles Chris Hagler found a way to manage his determined opponent. Twelve to fifteen hit rallies were the norm on most points, finding a patient and relaxed Hagler on the winning end of the majority of them. With a final score of 7-5, 6-1 Chris' style and approached proved supreme.

The remaining Solano line-up of Tristan Apilado, Joe Caspers, Sean Dolan and Aaron Brumels put it all out there. They spun, slammed, jammed and crafted their way through points but in the end Foothills emerged victorious with a score of 8 - 1.

The Solano Men Tennis Team was able to get back on court on Thursday (February 1st) to face Chabot College. Right out of the gate the Doubles Teams rose to take two lines in their Pro Sets. Tristan Apilado / Joe Caspers along with Sean Dolan / Aaron Brumels hammered the court with precision shots, dogged defense and true teamwork. It was a pleasure to witness.

Singles was more of an uphill battle with some hard accurate hitters battling our lineup: Chris Hagler, Tristan Apilado, Joe Caspers, Sean Dolan, Aaron Brumels and Josh Sasoy constituted our offering against Chabot. Only two of the six emerged victorious: Hagler with a 6-4, 6-1 final score continued to showcase his unique style of play, while Sean Dolan exhibited exquisite patience and relentless defensive skills in a battle of focus and sheer will. With effective and on-point guidance provided by Coach Allie Will, Sean simply extracted all effort from his opponent and won 7-5, 6-2.

Congratulations to our Falcons, great effort and work for this first set of matches laid out before you. We are looking forward to a great 2018 Season... come catch a match and root on the players!!!
