Nikki Gentile enters her first season as the Falcons head coach. Coach Gentile is a Bay Area native who grew up in Martinez and graduated from Alhambra High School. As a top 100 national recruit in 2010, she accepted a scholarship to the University of Iowa where she started in three different positions. As a senior she transferred to Coe College and finished her collegiate career winning a Conference Championship, 1st team All-conference and All-region candidate, as well as leading the Iowa Athletic Conference in home runs and stolen bases.

After coaching two years at the High school level, she joined the coaching staff at her Alma Mater, Coe College. After Coe College, she became an Assistant Coach at Northwest Missouri State University. The then ranked #16 Bearcats finished 2nd in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, with the quickest season to 30 wins in program history.

After moving to Roseville last year, Nikki completed her Masters of Science in Athletic Administration while working as a coach, instructor, and college liaison for All American Softball School out of West Sacramento. Her grandfather, Jim Gentile, aka 'Diamond Jim', was a former Major League Baseball first baseman who played nine years in the majors. He was a three-time American League All-Star, where he hit five grand slams, including two straight in one game, which set an AL record that stood until 1987 (Don Mattingly).

Solano Tennis Finishes Up Strong

The CCCAA State Championship held at the end of April 2017, marked the official close of Solano College Men's and Women's Tennis Season. The Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament (The Ojai) was established in 1896 and this year, more than 1500 collegiate players, 500 local volunteers, 7000 tennis balls and $120K in total expenses were just some of the highlights of the event. The tournament was played on 112 courts scattered throughout the Ojai Valley, Ventura, Oxnard & Port Hueneme.

Solano College qualified 6 players for the Championship: Chris Hagler (Men's Singles), Chris Hagler / JD Bobo (Men's Doubles), Krystov Fout / Reis Vince Cruz (Men's Doubles) & Sierra Shackelford / Ashley Contawe (Women's Doubles). This was the first year ever for a Women's Tennis Team at Solano College and the second year of the reestablishment of the Men's Team.

Hagler/Bobo won their first round match, making them the first Solano Team to win a match at The Ojai. Chris Hagler was nominated for '2017 Freshman of the Year' as well as, '2017 Player to Watch'; Head Coach Jordan Walker was nominated for '2017 Coach of the Year'. The experience provided a clear watermark of what we can achieve and create in years to come... we anxiously await the 2018 season with conviction and enthusiasm. GO FALCONS!!!
